40+ Years of Critical Care Transport Excellence
For more than 40 years, Boston MedFlight has provided ICU-level critical care transport by air and ground to patients throughout New England. Founded in 1985, the nonprofit organization is dedicated to ensuring patients receive lifesaving care when and where they need it most.
Its tagline, “Your Life. Our Mission.”, reflects the purpose that drives every aspect of the program. Whether responding to an emergency scene, transporting a critically injured trauma patient, or transferring a critically ill patient between hospitals, Boston MedFlight’s teams provide seamless, patient-centered care during some of life’s most critical moments.
As a nonprofit organization, Boston MedFlight is guided by a simple but unwavering principle: every patient deserves access to lifesaving care, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Each year, the organization provides more than $7 million in free and unreimbursed care, ensuring that no patient is ever turned away because of financial circumstances.
Additionally, Boston MedFlight’s clinical teams are among the most highly trained and experienced in the industry, caring for patients of all ages—from premature infants requiring specialized neonatal transport to elderly adults facing complex medical emergencies. This expertise is built through a rigorous education and training program that includes advanced clinical training, high-fidelity simulation, and ongoing continuing education to ensure crews are prepared for the most complex patient care scenarios.
This past year, Boston MedFlight celebrated its 40th anniversary while continuing to expand and innovate, marking several notable accomplishments and milestones, including being selected by Loft Dynamics to deploy its new, advanced VR Airbus H145 flight simulator and surpassing 1,000 units of blood administered through its prehospital blood program.
